2024 — A Year in Review

As mentioned in Jonathan Bryce's blog post and introduction to the 2024 OpenInfra Foundation Annual Report, 2024 was a good year for OpenInfra. Partnered with a surge in open source momentum, the global community rallied around three OpenInfra goals to advance development and adoption of open infrastructure:

  • Protect the OpenInfra Vision of Open Source
  • Support and Strengthen OpenInfra Projects
  • Increase OpenInfra Impact

The 2024 OpenInfra Foundation Annual Report provides highlights from not only the milestones achieved by the community but also how we responded to the drivers behind open source momentum include AI redefining infrastructure, as well as concerns around digital sovereignty, licensing changes, or security.

The OpenInfra Days North America planning committee is making a meaningful change in how they will utilize the $1,000 sponsorship provided by the OpenInfra Foundation. Initially intended to be used to celebrate OpenStack’s 15th Birthday, they have chosen instead to donate these funds to World Central Kitchen. Our hearts go out to those affected by these tragic events and this decision gives the community the opportunity to provide critical support to first responders, community members and their families impacted by the devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

There are still plans to host a casual gathering during OpenInfra Days North America to celebrate OpenStack’s 15th Birthday. Stay tuned for details, and thank you for your support!
